There is no shortage of Birmingham wedding venues to choose from. I’ll share five favorites with you in this post. I’m intentionally including various options from whimsical to something more palatable for the masses, from intimate to something more substantial in size. All are interesting, and all could provide a setting for something really special.
Saturn Birmingham
In no particular order, the first mention is a bit quirky and a whole lot of fun! Saturn Birmingham is located in Avondale, a historic, revitalized neighborhood in Birmingham. Saturn is most often a music venue, but also rents their space for events and weddings.
Details:
- Location: 200 41st St. South, Birmingham, AL
- Capacity is approximately 250 people (standing) in the main event space. With tables and chairs this will be considerably fewer, approximately 100.
- Couples are privy to the green room for preparation; it’s upstairs and has a really eclectic vibe.
- Elevated sections and floor seating options for guests.
- Bar minimum through Saturn Birmingham, but outside catering needed for food.
- No outdoor event space.

Iron City Birmingham
The second notable Birmingham Wedding Venue is Iron City Birmingham. It was built in 1929, but opened as a venue in 2013 after much renovation. It’s a historic building with beautiful exposed brick walls and high ceilings with beams giving it an industrial feel.
Details:
- Location: 513 22nd St. South, Birmingham, AL
- Capacity is approximately 1300 people (standing). With tables and chairs this will be considerably fewer, approximately 250.
- Available preparation rooms are upstairs.
- Large stage and the option for a huge dance floor.
- Food and beverage minimum requirement through Iron City.
- No outdoor event space.

Clubhouse on Highland
Originally a private residence, the third location is Clubhouse on Highland was built in 1910; it’s located in the heart of the city in the Highland Park neighborhood. It’s sits heroically on the top of a small hill with a neat vantage point. One thing worth noting- Bob McKenna operates Clubhouse on Highland and is one of the nicest people you will ever meet; everyone agrees that he’s absolutely lovely to work with.
- Location: 2908 Highland Ave., Birmingham, AL
- Capacity is approximately 400 people (standing) using both the indoor and outdoor spaces. With tables and chairs indoors this will be approximately 125. More people may fit outdoors.
- Ceremony may be indoors, usually at the foot of a large staircase, or outdoors, in the back on a cement patio.
- Requirement to use one of their approved vendors for catering as part of their package options.
- Outdoor event space is an option.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens (Japanese Gardens)
The fourth location for a memorable wedding is Birmingham Botanical Gardens. is one of the most beautiful locations for photography so you can imagine that it makes a gorgeous setting for a wedding as well. There are several areas that are options for a wedding ceremony at the gardens, but one of my personal favorites for intimate weddings is the Japanese Gardens.
Details:
- Location: 2612 Lane Park Rd., Birmingham, AL
- Capacity is approximately 25 people standing; chairs may be provided by the gardens.
- This is an absolutely beautiful outdoor space reserved for small ceremonies.
- Ideal for a small ceremony with a reception elsewhere or an on-site, indoor reception option is the Garden Cafe.
- Cherry blossoms bloom in late March to early April inside the Japanese Gardens.
- Fall showcases many red Japanese maples.

Vulcan Park & Museum
And last but not least is Vulcan Park & Museum, which sits atop Red Mountain with a unique view of the city of Birmingham and beautifully landscaped green spaces. There are many backdrops for gorgeous wedding day photos. The venue is centered around Vulcan, a 56-foot tall cast-iron statue of the Roman god of fire created by the Italian sculptor, Giuseppe Moretti in 1903.
- Location: 1701 Valley View Dr., Birmingham, AL
- Capacity
- Indoor and outdoor ceremony options.
- Additional rental options are available like patio heaters or fans, golf cart shuttle, string lights, etc.
- Requirement to use one of their approved vendors for catering and their beverage service.
