Most often I will meet you at an agreed upon location in the Birmingham area, such as a public park for a natural setting or in downtown Birmingham for a city setting for our session. The first 20 miles to the location is included in the price; beyond 20 miles from my home, a suburb of Birmingham, is $1.25 per mile, which will be added to your total.

We will meet at a studio space in the city of Birmingham. Although I have studio lighting, I rarely use it. I prefer to use natural lighting from the windows in the room, even inside a studio space; there's one in particular I rent. It's a very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, much like photographing in your home. So if it's highly retouched "glam" you're after,  we're probably not the best fit. I will photograph individuals and couples, but not families in-studio.

I will travel to your home for a session. These sessions are relaxed and wonderful for newborns. They're also perfect for anyone not wanting to venture outdoors in the winter or summer months for a session. The first twenty miles from my home, a suburb of Birmingham, to yours is included. Mileage after 20 miles is $1.25 per mile, which will be added to your total.

A Micro Wedding is an intimate event with considerably fewer guests than a traditional wedding and usually no more than five hours in length, including portraits, ceremony, and a short reception if you choose to have one. Click Here to browse my wedding gallery!

I don't normally offer mini-sessions. Short sessions do not work well with my photography style. My creativity feels stifled by being rushed, and I try to provide clients with an experience, not "just a few quick photos". I've also seen too many tears from little ones who felt pressured by the parents to act a certain way in a short amount of time so the session wouldn't be a "waste."

Yes, I do! When you receive your gallery link to view your images, you may shop in my online store, which will be attached to your gallery. You'll have the option of purchasing digital files (if you didn't buy them when booking), printed images on canvas and photographic paper, and/or albums.

Yes, in the state of Alabama photographers are required to pay 10% sales tax on all tangible goods, which includes digital files, printed images, and albums.

I like the words BOLD, REAL, and CONTAGIOUS EMOTION (as described by a client). I love rich color and contrast. My approach to family and couple's photography is very natural with as little interruption as possible and minimal posing. (Of course, I'm happy to help if it looks like it's needed though.) Portraits of individuals require more interaction on my part and some creative posing. My goal is to take an artful approach to create images that don't feel stiff. I've been photographing with Nikon and Sigma equipment for over ten years. I recently purchased my first mirrorless camera, a Nikon Z6 ii, and I have a Nikon D780, and Nikon D750, and an assortment of lenses ranging in focal lengths from 14 mm-200 mm. The variety of lenses allows me to photograph up close in an intimate way and from far away if needed, such as during our Pandemic, or in situations that I'd like to take more of a "fly on the wall" approach.

What experiences have made you a good photographer?

Will we see all of the images?

How many photos will we see?

How long does it take to see our gallery?

If we purchase files, do we own the copyright?

As of 2024, it's been 30 years since my first photography class! I studied Photography and Art Education in college, graduated with a double major-a BS and BFA, taught school for fifteen years, and resigned from teaching in 2015 to begin Bang Images. I think I connect with children because of my teaching experience and raising my own two children. I bring an artistic eye to each session because it's hugely who I am and I feel my study of art in college influenced that part of my approach. Also in 2023 I accepted a staff photographer position with UAB in addition to running Bang Images. I am totally immersed in photography nearly every day and I'm thriving!

Since switching from film to digital photography, I tend to overshoot. You will not receive every image. Instead, you will have a gallery full of beautifully culled and edited images. You won't see duplicates, blurry photos, over or underexposed, or incredibly unflattering captures. Your gallery will be artistically and professionally curated to feature the very best images from your session.

I share galleries with a minimum of 75 images for one hour of photography and 150 images for two hours of photography. Travelling to a second location and changing clothes during the Two-hour Session takes a little time away from photographing. *Files must be purchased to download.

It takes two weeks from the date of a session to receive a link to view your gallery of images. It takes 4-6 weeks to see your images from a Micro Wedding or event. You will be sent a link via email to view your own password-protected gallery. *Files must be purchased to download.

When you purchase digital files, you are purchasing the opportunity to print images, create an album, post photos online, or any other personal use you can think of. I will retain the official copyright i.e. ownership of the images.

Are there any pricing specials?

Do you photograph with a second photographer?

Do you offer video?

Do you travel for photography?

Returning clients receive a 10% deduction off their session fee; this is called a Grateful Gift.

I am the photographer that will be at your portrait session. And since I only photograph Micro Weddings now instead of full-length wedding days, I am often the only photographer. A second photographer may be hired for your Micro Wedding at additional cost; I know several talented professionals who have photographed many weddings with me over the years.
Are you a beginner photographer? I offer mentorships! Click here to learn more about my mentorship program.

I'm a still image photographer and have been for close to three decades. I am considering adding video in the future although I don't currently offer this option.

Most of my work is in and around Birmingham, AL. I do offer the option of travel for a small fee. The first twenty miles to and twenty miles from a session, event, or Micro Wedding are included. After that there is a $1.25 per mile travel fee for locations within three hours of my home. If the session, event, or Micro Wedding photography time concludes later than 9:00 p.m. and is 3 hours or more from my home, an overnight lodging fee will be the responsibility of the client in addition to the travel fee.
