Birmingham Fall Family Photos | Bang Images

FILED IN: Families

Another fall in the books…

Since I made it through another busy fall as a photographer, I thought I’d share some Birmingham fall family photos. I may write separate blog posts for a couple of these sessions, but for now, here are a handful of favorites from fall 2023. I think it may have seriously been my busiest fall yet, and that makes NINE falls in business as Bang Images!

Natural Setting vs. City Setting

Believe it or not, not all families want the quintessential fall look for their fall portrait sessions. You may be thinking, “But Alabama’s fall foliage is incredible!” Something to remember is that I photograph a lot of the same families year after year. It’s understandable that they wouldn’t want all their family photos to be in similar settings, so mixing it up a little can be fun. Fall is busy not only because of the vibrant colors, but also because of the wonderful temperatures and the fact that many families want to send out holiday cards with fresh, updated photos of everyone.

I had a few families who wanted to photograph in the city even though most choose a natural setting. The great thing about photographing in the city is that it’s a setting that works year-round. October and November will likely be the first to book with your favorite photographer. If you wait to contact them, fingers crossed they’re able to work you in. It may mean your session is a little later in the season. Technically most of December is still part of our fall season. Unfortunately, most of the leaves have dried and fallen by then. But, it’s no problem! A city setting could be the answer you’re looking for.

Or perhaps your home?

I’m invited to people’s homes sometimes, and depending on the weather, we may photograph indoors or out, or both. I love the challenge of finding beautiful outdoor spaces in environments less familiar. Check out this lovely portrait of three sisters (above). What a perfect time of day that was and such gorgeous flowers for a pop of color!

To wrap it up…

It was an incredibly busy fall and I got to reconnect with many families! I usually only meet with them once a year so seeing their growth is really cool. Noticeable changes might be a family of three becoming a family of four. Other times it’s just simply the progression of time. I photograph individuals, couples, and even micro weddings as well, but families are the genre of photography I’ve loved the longest. Thank you to all those who trusted me in the fall of 2023 to document your beautiful families! And much appreciation to those of you who read this blog post sharing Birmingham fall family photos. I hope to work with you again and to meet new families.
