I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting this family for a Birmingham Botanical Gardens family session just a few weeks ago. Summer isn’t usually as busy for outdoor portraits because, let’s face it, we live in Alabama, and in July and August it can often be unbearable outdoors. We’ve been pretty lucky though lately and these morning shoots have been successful! 
Just look at this gorgeous setting! This particular area inside the Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite new locations to photograph. Like all environments, it changes with the seasons. My last family photo session there was in the fall of 2019. Take a look at how different the landscape is. I adore the variety and I will definitely be going back!
I think another reason this family portrait session was so successful is because of the way that the parents and child interacted. They were playful, talked to one another, and did a great job of pretending a camera wasn’t recording their actions. In fact, the father remarked, “Hey, this is what we’d be doing anyway,” which is the perfect attitude that led to great results. If you try to lose your awareness of the camera and do your best to “act normally,” we will create natural, not overly posed photographs. Goal achieved! High Five to the LaRussa-Henderson family!
