I think there are times in life when it’s fun and perfectly fine to “wing it”. I’m not sure weddings are one of those times. This blog post about the wedding day questionnaire is for anyone planning a wedding or photographing a wedding. Clients receive this very important questionnaire about 6 weeks in advance. This is enough time that couples don’t feel rushed to fill it out, but close enough to the wedding date that most plans have been made.

Analyzing each moment of a wedding day to make sure all the details are carefully considered with little room for error is important to some. Others may want to allow things to happen more organically, while still following a loose structure. I think a wedding day questionnaire is helpful for everyone.
A wedding day questionnaire can be as short or long as needed. As a photographer, I use one that I created several years ago. It’s 5-7 pages in length (depending on the size of the wedding since that usually affects the amount of information needed). It covers everything from the ceremony and reception addresses to the couple’s social media and phone numbers. The questionnaire is also a convenient reference for a photographer. It’s impossible to remember all the details of multiple couples’ weddings. Having a way to find answers to questions without constantly messaging couples is smart. It may be necessary to know if the couple plans to have a First Look for example, or if they want their engagement and wedding bands photographed.

Using a questionnaire communicates your care and attention to your couple’s wedding day. It’s a way of organizing the details of the event that makes your couple feel like they’re in good hands.
If you’re creating a wedding day questionnaire, contact information for the couple should always be first. Having basic information such as the date, location(s), and time(s) should also on page one. You may want to ask questions about the size of the wedding party, whether there will be a flower girl or ring bearer, an approximate guest count, and specific reception activities. There are many questions that you may want answers to. These are some that I include on my wedding day questionnaire.
