Cathy and Carlton asked me to meet them on this very special Birmingham rooftop for engagement photos in downtown Birmingham. I absolutely love it when someone asks me to photograph in a place I’ve never been. On one hand it’s intimidating and obviously the familiar is more comfortable, but on the other hand, it’s exciting to be challenged by new environments and lighting. It’s also a fantastic way to spice up the ol’ portfolio! Our first location was new to me and I gladly photographed them there.
It should have rained our session out. IT DIDN’T! We photographed a full hour outdoors and it was wonderful!
As you can see, we eventually left the rooftop and walked to the Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. Bridge, which has been closed for two years. It’s a favorite location among Birmingham photographers because all vehicles are prohibited from using it and you get such a great view of the city.
They brought a speaker and sang and danced, and really just had a whole lot of fun! Being in the moment and literally playing took the pressure off of being photographed! (Adults really should do more of this!) Their playfulness made photographing them so incredibly easy.
It’s been a little while since we created these engagement photos in downtown Birmingham. Even though, I bet Cathy and Carlton still have many days just like this, laughing and dancing. I wish them a lifetime of happiness!
Please contact me if you’d like a couple’s session! If you’re interested to see more couple’s portraits, please check out my gallery dedicated to couples. FYI-couples don’t only book engagement sessions; sometimes we photograph because of an anniversary, but also just because you love each other and photographs are beautiful, important record keepers.
