Birmingham Photographer / Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes and the Pandemic

Here we are. It’s September 2020 and fall is knocking on our door. We’ve experienced six months of the first pandemic of our lives and quarantining to some degree (some definitely more than others). It’s been hard, gruesome even at times, but that’s certainly a very relative-to-your-situation type of description. At our home, we’re truly grateful for our healthcare workers and those that are keeping our life afloat i.e. Shipt and Instacart shoppers and Amazon delivery. (I realize there are reasons not to shop the way we are, but for now, it’s helping us stay healthy, so no judgement, k?)

It would be impossible to live through a time like this and not be affected by it; we’ve made many small changes and a couple of rather big ones. Here are a few small additions:

  • Bistro tables for our patio, distanced six feet apart so we can visit with friends and family
  • A hammock for the backyard
  • An awesome tiny pool for floating and cooling off

And a few bigger changes:

  • TWO pups-yes, we are proud foster fails!
  • A privacy fence to secure the pups and well, to give us more privacy since most of our time is spent at home now
  • And probably the BIGGEST change of all…drum roll, please…

Bang Images is no longer booking weddings.

I only photograph 10-12 a year, but it’s still a big change for me. I photographed my first wedding in 2001. Let me say that again, 2001. I don’t think until just now that I realized it’s almost been 20 years since that first wedding. By the time I finish photographing all the rescheduled weddings from 2020 in 2021, I’ll hit that 20 year mark. (As you may know, I taught at a Montessori school from 2000-2015, so it hasn’t been a consistent 10-12 weddings a year and the first few were for family and friends.)

Here’s a nod to one of my most memorable weddings.

I am fulfilling my promises to photograph the weddings I have contracted for 2020 and those pushed to 2021, and I think I’m going to really enjoy them, especially since they will likely be my last; they’re special! I’m a little sad about the change because weddings are exhilarating, but I’m a silver lining seeker so I’m looking forward to the evolution. If I’m no longer photographing weddings, I’ll have more time to focus on family and portrait photography, and I look forward to growing my business even more!

The blog title signals the Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes happening! A couple of big ones are business related and this Birmingham photographer is pumped! I’m feeling confident about the decision to dedicate more time to family photography and portrait sessions, and fall is just days away! Fall is my busiest season as an outdoor photographer and I’m really excited about it! I am still in business, even through this pandemic. It’s been a wild ride so far with all the accommodations made during sessions and changes imposed due to Covid-19, but I’m a fighter and this business is like a third child of mine, so my Mama Bear instinct pushes me to be my best and give it my all. I’m fully committed to Bang Images and I’m excited about its future!

As a reminder to how I’m conducting business during a pandemic, please read this blog post, Being a Birmingham Photographer During a Pandemic. (Precautions are taken for everyone’s safety!)

Please reach out if you would like to plan a fall session. I am a family photographer and portrait photographer of individuals and couples. I would love to get you on my calendar, which is starting to fill! Contact me.
