Birmingham Event Photographer / Girls Rock Fest

FILED IN: Events, Personal

There are several organizations I feel a special connection to and try to support as often as I can. Girls Rock Bham http://girlsrockbham.org/ is one of those. I’m also in love with them because I have a daughter who’s been to their summer camp the last two summers and the whole family really can’t say enough nice things about the program. In fact, the reason for this event that I photographed was to kick off the sign up for the 2019 summer!
There were so many wonderful performers!

  • Dree Leer
  • Kate Taylor Hollingsworth
  • Bekah Fox
  • Chelsea Whild
  • Rachael Roberts
  • Janet Simpson
  • Fee-Fee Redmon
  • Anna Grace Beatty
  • Rynea Soul

There were also many vendors, like Ono Ice, The Crisis Center, and Seasick Records to name a few. It was a beautiful day and Cahaba Brewing Company http://www.cahababrewing.com/ was a very welcoming venue with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. It’s great to photograph people interacting naturally and having fun. This was the perfect situation-wide open space, loads of natural light, and the temperature was just right. I’d enjoy photographing more events like this. If you have a girl or one that identifies as one, between the ages of 9 and 16, and she shows an interest in music and growing her independence and awesomeness skills, enroll her in Girls Rock Bham summer camp! You will NOT be sorry. She will learn and grow in ways you didn’t know possible in such a short time-one week!

Here’s a little excerpt from their website, which explains it a lot better than I could. “Girls Rock Birmingham is a nonprofit program that fosters a solid foundation for young girls to grow confidently as individuals while developing rewarding musical skills. By participating in workshops and technical lessons, the girls become empowered by their newfound abilities, self-awareness, and sense of belonging. Led by positive female role models, the girls are exposed to the possibilities and benefits afforded to them through the enjoyment of music making and performing with their peers. Girls Rock Camp Birmingham knows every girl is a rock-star and that by learning to work as a team they will grow to be great leaders in their community!”

The 2019 camp dates have just been announced! Go to their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/girlsrockbham to get info about signing-up; it starts in April.
