Bang Images is an Alabama wedding photographer who’s always really excited to photograph a wedding! Although I also photograph traditional wedding days, this was a Micro Wedding. They are wonderful for so many reasons. The small number of guests and wedding attendants (if any) is a real plus. I also love the ratio of posed to candid photos favoring real moments. And the length of the event is so much shorter than a traditional wedding day.

Overall, Micro Weddings aren’t as big of a production and in theory less stressful for everyone involved with an overall relaxed approach. See for yourself in these images-just look at all the beautiful, actual happenings, approached with a photojournalistic approach.

Melissa and JR contacted me about photographing their Micro Wedding. We scheduled a meeting at their home in Downtown Birmingham since that’s where they planned to marry. The idea was to have the ceremony outdoors on their front stoop.

Before the wedding day, we evaluated the exact spot and time of the ceremony to know how the sunlight would fall. (It’s details like these that make all the difference in the quality of your photographs.)

They decided to host their extended family on their wedding day in their newly renovated, modern, home in the city of Birmingham.

There weren’t any wedding attendants other than their beautiful daughter who held flowers and rings in a special basket. She was absolutely adorable and an important part of their ceremony.

Their amazing open-concept living area was plenty big even for several tables and chairs. The entire front of their home was essentially one long row of windows interrupted by a front door.

As you can imagine, that light was such a perk for this photographer! It kept me smiling throughout the afternoon!

Melissa and JR’s wedding day was so much fun! The schedule was loose and relaxed. They granted me complete artistic freedom! No formal posed portrait list was used, (although we did fit some family portraits in per requests). The really cool location bathed in natural light quite honestly was the ultimate shot of dopamine. Everyone in attendance was kind and happy to be there, and most welcomed photographs. And the couple was absolutely in love and so charming and warm. It was a blast!
I’d love to talk to you if you’re planning a wedding! Take a look at photos from other weddings. Contact me to start the conversation. If you’d like to schedule portraits first to see how we jibe, I think that’s a fantastic idea! How about an engagement session? You can see couple’s portraits here.
