Altadena Valley Park is my location spotlight. This is probably my favorite natural location most of the time. I know that’s an odd way to describe it, but although it may be my favorite, it may not be perfect for every client. It’s a bit wild and a little unkempt, but that’s one of the reasons I love it! I’ve been photographing there for the last five years and know it rather well.

You’ll find golden rod in October in various places, bold, yellow, and a great accent to your portraits.

Originally, this location was the Altadena Valley Country Club’s golf course. It’s expansive, over 60 acres of land in total. It’s nestled in a neighborhood in a suburb of Birmingham and rather easy to find. This is the place if you’re looking for a field to photograph in!

There are many trees but also wide-open spaces. It’s beautiful in the spring, summer, and fall with wild vegetation along the perimeter and near the pond, which is centrally located.
I like this location also for its convenience. Not only is it easy to find in a suburb of Birmingham, it also has had the addition of bathrooms and a parking lot in the last couple of years. This is great for families with little ones or anyone wanting to change clothes during their portrait session.

It’s also my favorite because of its gorgeous golden hour light in the late afternoon.

You can’t go wrong photographing at the beginning of the day either. Just look at this soft, morning light!

There are many, very tall pines. I’ve never been very fond of pine trees, but they get my attention here. They provide shade, a welcome respite on sunny days.

Altadena Valley Park is my location spotlight because of it’s size, convenience, perfect golden hour, and its unkempt, wild vibes. If you’re a local photographer scouting new locations or someone looking for inspiration for your next photoshoot, this is a uniquely beautiful spot.
