6 Tips to Overcome Your Photoshoot Anxiety | Bang Images

As a photographer and also a realist, I understand there may be a little nervous energy leading up to a photoshoot. Here are 6 tips to overcome your photoshoot anxiety. I hope these help!

  • Choose the right photographer for you.
    • Are you comfortable with not only their work, but also their online presence?
    • Have you read reviews or gotten recommendations from others?
  • Peruse the internet for photos that speak to you.
    • Look at your photographer’s portfolio for inspiration.
    • Consider creating a mood board.
    • Even though most of your photoshoot may be unposed, it’s likely at some point it won’t be. Practice poses/facial expressions in the mirror.
  • Deep breaths and positive affirmations-it’s going to be fun!
    • You’ve researched and found someone you feel is right for you. Now it’s time to trust your photographer.
    • Actually take a few minutes to breathe deeply before the shoot; it’s very relaxing.
    • Give yourself a little pep talk, “I am awesome! I can’t wait to see my beautiful photos! I’m so glad I booked this photoshoot!”
    • Acknowledge your anxiety, but try to reframe it as excitement!
  • Move your body.
    • Cortisol is a stress hormone we create and along with adrenaline, causes anxiety.
    • Movement can relieve stress; try dancing or exercising.
  • Become comfortable with the location beforehand.
    • Map it, and maybe even drive to it.
    • Is it easy to find?
    • Is there parking on-site or will you need to find on-the-street parking?
  • Ask for music during your photoshoot.
    • It can lower heartrate, blood pressure and even cortisol.
    • Music is also a great distraction, which will hopefully redirect your thoughts.
    • It adds fun to your shoot!

Just remember when your photoshoot is approaching that you are in control of the situation. You researched and found the photographer that’s right for you. You’re comfortable with their work and you like their online presence. The photos you’ve mentally saved as inspiration are going to really help you during your photoshoot. You’re going to have a great time and you’ll walk away feeling confident. And in a matter of just a couple of weeks, you’ll see your gallery and be so glad you decided to book your photoshoot!
