52 Week Photography Challenge | Bang Images

Do you want to grow as a photographer in 2026? You may want to explore the idea of a photo challenge. Two popular ones are the 365 project and 52 week project. I’m choosing to create one (personal, unrelated-to-work) photo a week. It’s a great way to get out of your comfort zone! It’s an alternative to the 365 photo challenge, which in my opinion is quite daunting. I’ve attempted probably four different 365 projects but only completed one. I absolutely adore the one I did complete, so if that’s the route you want to take, I applaud you! But for me personally, at this time in my life, a 52 week photography challenge is much more practical and feels achievable. I’m pretty excited about it!

You may have noticed that I chose to make “self-portrait” as the first and last challenges. I think in order to see our growth, it’s a good idea to end with the same challenge we began with almost exactly a year earlier. I’m very curious to see how the other 50 challenges will influence the final self-portrait.

This is the ONLY TIME I’ve ever said these words, “You are welcome to screenshot this image.” I encourage you to save the image with the 52 prompts on it. You may even want to print it and hang it so that you can reference it and check things off as you go. Whether you’re a professional photographer or not, perhaps you’ll consider taking on the task of a photography project this year.

I purposely created this 52 Week Photography Challenge that will be just that-challenging. I think it will be fun, yet will really make you think! And that’s the best part-being present and thoughtful in our experiences. You may have to look up some of these terms or search for examples online, and that’s okay! Remember, we’re stepping out of our comfort zones! When you allow yourself to be uncomfortable, growth happens. It’s a beautiful thing. Enjoy!

As always, please contact me if you’d like to work together. I am a portrait photographer of individuals, families, and couples, including weddings and events.
