In this blog post I’ll share 7 life events that require a professional photographer. There are obviously other times in life that you may want to hire a photographer. In my opinion, these particular situations really stand out!
Engagement
To photograph someone’s engagement could mean to record the actual proposal through photography, or it could simply be a portrait session to commemorate becoming engaged. Couples often use these photos to announce their engagement on social media and sometimes in physical save-the-date cards that are mailed.
Wedding
I can see the importance in hiring a professional photographer to photograph each of the life events listed, but wedding photography may be the pinnacle, the ding, ding, ding, numero uno if I had to pick just one! You may be able to get away with a do-it-yourself approach to some of the others, but please hire a professional to document your wedding. It is after all, one of the most important and memorable days of your life!
Pregnancy
Couples who are excited about their pregnancy may want to share their joy through portraits. A maternity session may include both partners or just the one carrying the child. This is a personal choice. Photos are a special yet fairly common way to announce the pregnancy to friends, family, and co-workers.
Newborn
You will be nothing short of amazed by your newborn! Additionally, you won’t believe how fast time passes and how quickly they grow and change. Newborns sleep A LOT during the first month of life. This is a great time for photos! If you want to avoid the milia stage (tiny bumps on the face), schedule your portrait session for around eight weeks old; it’s usually gone by then.
First Birthday
Your life will change significantly with the birth of your child. Your child’s first birthday will arrive so much faster than you want it to. You’ll be busier than you ever imagined and more in awe than you ever thought possible. Documenting their first “everything” will seem a priority. It makes sense that you would want a professional to photograph their first birthday, such an important milestone.
Pets
Not everyone has children. Some have pets that seem like children! Pets are important members of our families. It’s a great idea to document them. It’s especially fun to include them in family sessions if you have children too. Just make sure to discuss it with your photographer before showing up to your session with them. Not every location is amenable to the addition.
Other Milestones
Life is full of milestones. There are other birthdays besides the very first that are considered significant for one reason or another. For some it may be their 40th; in my experience, this is a popular birthday for portraits. Or maybe you’re celebrating the freedom and independence you feel after a divorce. Or perhaps you’d like to celebrate your retirement through photography. There are limitless reasons for hiring a professional photographer!
